Note(s):
(1) The geographic location corresponds to the location of the educational institutions where teachers are alocated.
(2) A- In the Região Autónoma dos Açores, for the school years of 1999/2000, 2000/2001, 2001/2002 and 2002/2003, are included only the teachers who give lessons. In the Região Autónoma da Madeira, for the school years of 1999/2000, 2000/2001 and 2001/2002, are included only the teachers who give lessons. Pre-primary education is for children aged between three years and the typical age for entry into primary education. Up to 2012/2013, information for Região Autónoma da Madeira, besides including data on the number of teaching staff in pre-primary education, also accounted for the number of teaching staff working with children under the age of three years old (creches).
B- Teachers who give lessons to different educational cycles are considered, for statistical purposes, as teachers of the cycle for which they have taught more hours. Teachers who do not give lessons but keep other positions, namely educational support or management activities, are considered, for statistical purposes, as teachers of the highest level for which they are qualified to. Thus, some municipalities may not present data for institutions or students, in certain education levels, but present data on teaching staff.
