(1) From January 1st, 2015 came into force a new version of NUTS (NUTS 2013). At NUTS II level was just a name change in "Lisboa" which became known as "Área Metropolitana de Lisboa".
(2) a) 2020 - Definitive data - Data are based in the information registered by the Civil Registry Offices until March 2022, plus 105 new cases registered in relation to the provisional data published in the previous year, a revision motivated by a larger lag between the moment of birth and time of registration due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2020 definitive data also considers the information on stillbirths recorded in the Death Certificate Information System available until May 2, 2022.
b)2021 - Provisional data - Data are based in the information registered by the Civil Registry Offices until March 2022.
(3) In 2008, there was a problem on data transmission to Statistics Portugal and it has not been possible so far to recover the information on some of the variables, which are reflected in an increase of ignored cases. This information is based on administrative records of births provided by the Ministry of Justice. Although the situation does not compromise the quality of the data, we stress the need of careful analysis of these variables. These data can be revised.
