(1) From January 1st, 2015 came into force a new version of NUTS (NUTS 2013). At NUTS II level was just a name change in "Lisboa" which became known as "Área Metropolitana de Lisboa".
(2) The 2019 statistical data were obtained based on the information of the Sistema de Informação dos Certificados de Óbito available until February 17, 2021.
(3) The figures for Total consider all deaths occurred in the country, both of residents and non residents, while the figures for Portugal only account for the deaths of residents in the country. The present population being available only on census years, the annual average resident population was considered in the calculation of rates for Total.
