(1) From January 1st, 2015 came into force a new version of NUTS (NUTS 2013). At NUTS II level was just a name change in "Lisboa" which became known as "Área Metropolitana de Lisboa".
(2) 2021, This information was calculated based on the Provisional Resident Population Estimates - revised values: postcensal resident population estimates for 2021 (ad hoc exercise based on the 2021 Census Provisional Results) were revised according to the 2021 Census Final Results.
2011-2020, Final Resident Population Estimates - revised values: provisional resident population estimates for 2011-2020 were revised (regular general revision) according to the 2021 Census Final Results.
(3) For 2011 to 2020, the surface area data are from the Official Administrative Map of Portugal, from the Directorate-General of Territorial Development, corresponding to the reference version for the 2021 Census and therefore for the Final Resident Population Estimates in this period. For 2021 and subsequent years, the CAOP area corresponding to the version in force on 31 December of the respective year is considered.
