Observations "Council Directive 1999/31/EC of 26 April obliged Member States to divert biodegradable municipal wastes from landfills in order to minimize negative effects on the environment resulting from their disposal. It was determined that the amount of biodegradable wastes (in weight) for landfill should be reduced to 75% in 2006, 50% in 2009 and 35% in 2016 in relation to the biodegradable municipal waste generated in 1995."
