Definition MORTALITY RATE - Number of deaths during a given period of time, usually the calendar year, for a particular cause of death, reported to the average population in this period (in number of deaths per 100 000 inhabitants). As a rule, the mortality rates are not calculated when the place of residence or age are unknown.
