  • REFERENCE PERIOD:  Period to which the information refers and which may be a specific day or a time interval (month, fiscal year, calendar year, among others).
  • BALANCE:  Difference between the share of positive evaluation responses ("increased", "improved very much", "above average", "good", "yes, for sure", etc.) and negative evaluation responses ("decreased", "worsened somewhat", "very unfavourable", "probably not", etc.). These calculations do not include the share of neutral responses ("perhaps", "the same", etc.) and "doesn't know".;
Definition The consumer confidence indicator is calculated by European Commission and it corresponds to the arithmetic average of the balances (of the answers to the questions on the past and expected financial situation of households, the expected general economic situation and the intentions to make major purchases over the next 12 months. EU and euro-area aggregate replies to the questionnaires are calculated as weighted averages of the country aggregate replies. Balances are seasonally adjusted.
