Concepts
  • FRESH GROUNDWATER:  Water collected at springs, mine galleries, artesian wells or bore-holes, i.e., extracted waters that may be recovered from a geological formation. All permanent and temporary deposits of water, both artificially charged and naturally, in the subsoil, of sufficient quality for at least seasonal use. This category includes phreatic water-bearing strata, as well as deep strata under pressure or not, which may be sub-aqueous. Excluded from groundwater is bank filtration (covered under surface water).
