ACTIVIDADE ECONÓMICA PREÇOS ECONOMIC ACTIVITY PRICES 97 In 2016 the consumer price index recorded an annual average rate of change of 0.6%, accelerating by 0.1 p.p. from the previous year. Clothing and footwear, housing, water, electricity, and leisure, recreation and culture, contributed the most to this acceleration between 2015 and 2016, both through an acceleration in the rate of change and a change in the orientation of the change. Conversely, the contributions from food and non-alcoholic beverages, health and, to a lesser extent, alcoholic beverages and tobacco, and communications partly countered the effects of the previous classes. In fact, a comparison of the annual average rate of change in 2016 and 2015 showed that clothing and footwear, and leisure, recreation and culture recorded the highest positive differentials (1.6 p.p. and 1.7 p.p. respectively).
