COOPSTAT NEWS Nº 17 15 Testemunho da orientadora do estágio | Feedback from the traineeship coordinator É com muita satisfação que o Serviço de Geoinformação (GEO) acolhe desde há vários anos estagiários no âmbito do programa Multi-beneficiary Statistical Cooperation Programme, tendo passado já por este serviço, técnicos dos Institutos Nacionais de Estatística da Roménia, República Checa, Turquia e Albânia. O estágio da Mirela Deva decorreu no último semestre de 2017 e foi, mais uma vez, uma oportunidade para partilharmos conhecimento e experiencias de trabalho no domínio da integração da informação geográfica e estatística. A Mirela integrou-se com facilidade no serviço e demostrou grande empenho e determinação ao desafio de calcular indicadores de acessibilidade entre casa e equipamentos, utilizando diferentes metodologias possíveis para obter resultados. Foi necessário investigar ferramentas e dados fora do âmbito do software ESRI, por exemplo o Google e Openstreetmap. Mesmopara a equipadoGEOesta temáticano INEPortugal é inovadora, requerendo o uso de novas ferramentas de geoprocessamento, algoritmos e novo tipo de informação georreferenciada. Comprometida com o projeto, a Mirela rapidamente se entregou à tarefa de compreender e explorar as funcionalidades dos diferentes softwares e dos dados geoespaciais com que tinha de trabalhar. Sempre bem- disposta e denotando um interesse particular em apreender a língua portuguesa, a Mirela desenvolveu o trabalho, num processo de experimentação de metodologias e utilização de novas ferramentas, cumprindo assim o objetivo traçado. The Georeferencing Unit (GEO) has been very pleased to welcome, throughout the years, several trainees within the framework of the IPA Multi-beneficiary Statistical Cooperation Programme. In this context, this Unit has already hosted staff from the Romanian, Czech, Turkish and Albanian NSIs. Mirela Deva’s traineeship took place in the last semester of 2017 and was an opportunity to, once again, share knowledge and work experiences within the domain of the integration of statistical and geospatial information. Mirela was easily integrated in the Unit and showed a tremendous amount of commitment and perseverance while facing the challenge of computing accessibility indicators - commuting distance based on the geocodes from the Buildings and Dwellings Register and schools facilities -, using the available methodologies to achieve the desired results. It was necessary to research for tools and data outside the scope of the ESRI software, for example: Google and Openstreetmap. Even for the GEO Unit this is an innovative area in Statistics Portugal, which requires the usage of new geoprocessing tools, algorithms and new types of georeferenced data. Always committed to the project, Mirela quickly embraced the task of understanding and exploring the functionalities of the different software and geospatial data that she had to work with. Permanently well-spirited and showing a particular interest in learning the Portuguese language, Mirela has developed her work in a continuous process of experimenting new methodologies and using new tools, which resulted in the fulfilment of the initially set goal.
