COOPSTAT NEWS N.º 23 7 Cooperação com os Países de Língua Portuguesa Cooperation with Portuguese-speaking Countries EM FOCO HIGHLIGHTS O Seminário da Conferência, subordinado à temática “O Papel dos INEs nos novos ecossistemas de dados”, decorreu no dia 5 e na manhã de 6 de dezembro. Na sessão de abertura, o Presidente do INE, Francisco Lima, destacou as evoluções tecnológicas (ex. digitalização de dados administrativos, data science, inteligência artificial, machine learning), económicas (ex. dados privados e as relações de cooperação/concorrência com os seus detentores) e sociais (ex. exigência de informação mais rápida e atual sobre assuntos prementes) que contribuem para um repensar do papel dos INEs. Foram igualmente sublinhadas as eventuais implicações desta nova conjuntura numa possível reorganização das estruturas institucionais, de produção, e tecnológicas dos INEs para responder a estes desafios. Tendo como pano de fundo o emblemático Salão Nobre do INE, as sessões de trabalho foram marcadas pela extrema qualidade das apresentações e intervenções dos participantes e convidados, que se debruçaram sobre: 1) as experiências de coordenação e cooperação dos INEs nos respetivos sistemas estatísticos nacionais (SEN); 2) os princípios fundamentais dos SEN; e 3) as experiências e perspetivas de futuro relativas à ronda censitária 2020. The Conference Seminar, under the theme “The Role of NSIs in the new data ecosystems”, took place on the 5th and morning of the 6th December. At the opening session, Statistics Portugal’s President, Mr. Francisco Lima, highlighted developments of a technological (e.g. digitization of administrative data, data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning), economic (e.g. private data and cooperation/competition relations with their holders) and social nature (e.g. demand for faster and more current information on pressing issues) that contribute to rethinking the role of NSIs. The opening remarks also underlined the potential implications of these new circumstances for a possible reorganization of the institutional, production and technological structures of the NSIs to respond to these challenges. With the emblematic Statistics Portugal’s Great Hall as a backdrop, the work sessions were marked by the extreme quality of presentations and interventions by participants and guests, which focused on 1) the experiences of coordination and cooperation of NSIs in their national statistical systems (NSS); 2) the fundamental principles of NSS; and 3) experiences and future perspectives regarding the 2020 census round.
