A quantidade de resíduos urbanos produzidos pelas populações é influenciada pelo nível de riqueza, refletido na capacidade económica de consumir e na relaçãocomosvaloresehábitosdevidadapopulação. Reduzir a quantidade de resíduos é essencial para reduzir o impacto ambiental das populações. The global SDG indicator “11.6.1. Proportion of urban solid waste regularly collected and with adequate final discharge out of total urban solid waste generated, by cities” is accessed nationally by the proxy indicator “Urban waste collected”. The amount of urban waste produced by the population is influenced by the level of wealth, reflected in the economic capacity to consume and in the relation with the population values and living habits.
