Mais de 80% dos enfermeiros erammulheres. As regiõesdeTâmegaeSousaedoOeste registavam os menores rácios de enfermeiros por habitante (respetivamente, 2,0 e 2,4 por mil habitantes). Em contrapartida, a Região de Coimbra (com 12,0‰) e Terras de Trás-os-Montes (11,1‰) detinham a maior densidade de enfermeiros por habitante em 2017.
