Currency/Banking
Euro is the Portuguese official currency.
International credit and debit cards are accepted for payment in most hotels, restaurants and shops.
Portugal has a national network of cash machines (ATMs) identified by the symbol MB (Multibanco) from which you can withdraw cash 24 hours a day.
Banks are open from 8.30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (working days).
Tipping
Restaurants: service is included in the bill; however it is usual to leave a tip (5-10% of the total).
Taxis: It is also usual to tip taxi drivers with the same percentage or rounding up the amount to the nearest euro.
Hotel Booking
Statistics Portugal advises all participants to book their accommodation as early as possible. Although Lisbon has a vast number of Hotels, they tend to be full, from June to July.
