The tourist accommodation sector registered 1.6 million guests and 4.5 million overnight stays in July 2021, which compares to 1.0 million guests and 2.6 million overnight stays in July 2020. However, the levels reached in July 2021 were lower than those observed in July 2019, having decreased the number of guests and overnight stays by 42.5% and 45.0%, respectively.
Compared to July 2019, there was an increase of 6.4% in overnight stays from residents and a decrease of 67.6% in overnight stays from non-residents.
In the first seven months of the year, total overnight stays decreased by 2.4%, which results from an accumulated growth rate of +31.7% in residents and -30.7% in non-residents. It should be noted that these variations are influenced by the fact that in the first two months of 2020 the impact of the pandemic has not yet been felt. Compared to the same period in 2019, overnight stays decreased by 67.4% (-31.5% in residents and -82.1% in non-residents).
In July, 19.1% of the tourist accommodation establishments were closed or had no movement of guests (26.0% in June).
