The tourist accommodation sector registered 1.6 million guests and 4.5 million overnight stays in July 2021, which compares with 1.0 million guests and 2.6 million overnight stays in July 2020. The levels reached in July 2021 were, however, lower than those observed in July 2019, having decreased the number of guests and overnight stays, by 42.5% and 45.0%, respectively. Compared with July 2019, there was a growth of 6.4% in overnight stays of residents and a decrease of 67.6% in overnight stays of non-residents.
The total revenue registered in the tourist accommodation establishments amounted to EUR 296.9 million and the revenue from accommodation was EUR 223.4 million. Compared with July 2019, total revenue decreased by 44.5% and revenue from accommodation declined by 46.7%. The revenue per available room (RevPAR) was EUR 40.4 in July (EUR 31.4 in June). The average daily rate (ADR) amounted to EUR 99.9 in July (EUR 86.8 in June). In July 2019, the RevPAR and the ADR amounted to EUR 70.0 and EUR 106.8, respectively.
To the decrease in the revenue from accommodation observed in July, when compared to the same month of 2019 (-46.7%), contributed, on the one hand, the decrease in the number of overnight stays in this month (-45.0%) and, on the other hand, the decrease in the ADR (-6.5%).
Between January and July 2021, considering the whole set of accommodation (tourist accommodation establishments, camping and holiday camps, and youth hostels), there were 5.8 million guests and 14.8 million overnight stays, corresponding to rates of change of -1.2% in both vis-à-vis the same period of 2020.
