Transport of passengers grew but still far from the levels in 2019 - 3rd Quarter 2021

Summary

In the 3rd quarter of 2021, national airports handled around 10 million passengers (+92.7% compared to the same period of 2020). Compared to the 3rd quarter of 2019, there was a decrease of 45.0%.

Passengers transported by train and by metro grew 19.1% and 12.5%, respectively, corresponding to 32.8 and 35.5 million users. In comparison to the same period of 2019, there were decreases of 28.8% and 45.2%, respectively.

In the 3rd quarter of 2021, the transport of passengers by inland waterways registered an increase of 6.5% compared to the Q3 2020 (+97.1% in the Q2 2021), reaching 4.8 million passengers, and a reduction of 32.6% compared to the Q3 2019.

Regarding to the transport of goods, by air the increase compared to Q3 2020 was less significant than in the previous quarter (+52.5%; +108.3% in Q2 2021), but still with a 7.0% reduction when compared to the Q3 2019. By rail there were increases of 16.5% compared to the same period of 2020 (+24.0% in Q2 2021) and 10.3% compared to the same period of 2019. By sea, there was a slight increase of 0.7% compared to the Q3 2020 (+29.7% in Q2 2021), also registering a slight increase compared to the Q3 2019 (+1.0%). Road transport grew slightly, +0.2% in comparison to the Q3 2020, but decreased in comparison to 2019 (-3.9%).
