In 2009 expenditure in tourism consumption decreases
16 December 2009

Summary
In 2009 expenditure in tourism consumption is expected to decrease 5.0 %, in nominal terms, after a high growth in 2007 and a restrained growth in 2008. The Gross Value Added generated by Tourism should reduce 4.8% in line with the decrease of Tourism demand.
In 2009, as in the previous year, Tourism industry should have change rates lower than those of the total economy. In fact, considering its higher exposure to the effects of the present international economic situation, it is estimated that the nominal change rate of the Gross Value Added generated by Tourism should be more negative than that of the Gross Value Added of the economy, taking into account that during the first three quarters of 2009, the latest decreased, in value, 2% in relation to the homologous period of the previous year.
