Summary
The Portuguese Consumer Price Index (CPI) went up 1.1% in May 2010 when compared with May 2009. Excluding energy and unprocessed food, the annual rate increased to -0.1%, from -0.5% in April. On a monthly basis, the CPI decreased to 0.2% (0.4% in April 2010 and -0.2% in May 2009). The CPI 12 month average rate of change increased to -0.5% in May (-0.7% in April).
In May, the Portuguese Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) annual inflation rate was 1.1% (0.7% in April), 0.5 percentage points (p.p.) below the rate estimated by Eurostat for the Euro area.
