Summary
In the second quarter of 2010, there were 7.4 million passengers travelling through national airports, accounting for a year-on-year increase of 1.2%. Also, there was an increase in the number of passengers transported in inland waterways (+1.1%) as well as in light railway mode (+4.6%), which was opposite to the movement of passengers in heavy railway mode, maintaining a downward trend (year-on-year decrease of -0.8%). Freight transport modes showed a growth, with year-on-year variations of 3.5% in maritime mode, 12% in air mode and 8.9% in railway mode, when compared with the same period of the previous year. In the 1st quarter of 2010, the total volume of goods transported by road amounted to 56 471 thousands tons (-21% compared with 2009).
