The Census of Agriculture 1989 was a major statistical operation carried out following the FAO guidelines and according to the compulsory European Council Regulation 571/88 and. This was the 4th Census of Agriculture in Portugal, after the following editions: 1952-54, 1968 and 1979 (mainland), 1964, 1977 and 1985 (Azores), 1964, 1977 and 1986 (Madeira).
Data in the present edition is organized by Agrarian Region and County.
