Welcome to DGINS 2015
Dear colleagues, Dear all,
On behalf of INE - Statistics Portugal, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 101st Conference of the Directors General of the National Statistical Institutes and the Meeting of the European Statistical System Committee, to be held on September 23-25, 2015 in Lisbon.
It goes without saying that these conferences have been, over the history, a privileged forum for discussing the European Statistical System's developments and challenges. One hundred conferences with important debates are behind and a new cycle is being open with an ambitious agenda.
This year we will address a timely topic: Indicators for decision making and monitoring.
I do believe this topic will encourage very useful discussions on the relevance of indicators to take the appropriate decisions on a wide range of issues that dominate the agenda of today's society. Statistical Indicators will translate knowledge and information in decision and evaluation of policies and enable comparisons of economic and social performance reflecting quality of life of people living in Europe. Decisions based on those indicators will affect developments that require effective monitoring. The European Statistical System will certainly and effectively do its best to be up to the challenge.
In addition Statistics Portugal will invite you for a few social events. We hope you will enjoy them and in turn get a glimpse of Lisbon's special flavours.
