The gross monthly earnings per employee (per job) increased by 1.6% in the quarter ended in June 2020 (2nd quarter), compared to the same period of 2019, to €1,326. The same was observed on gross regular (2.6%) and base (3.0%) monthly earnings, which reached €1,065 and €1,005, respectively. In real terms, taking into account the change of the Consumer Price Index during the period under analysis, those gross monthly earnings per employee increased by 1.8% (total), 2.8% (regular) and 3.3% (base). These data concern nearly 4.0 million of employees, corresponding to the Social Security’s beneficiaries and the subscribers of Caixa Geral de Aposentações.
The recent dynamic of the average monthly earnings in the quarter ended in June 2020 was significantly affected by the new simplified layoff regime. In effect, among the enterprises which applied to this regime the year-on-year nominal change of the average total, regular and base gross monthly earnings stood at, respectively, -2.0%, -0.1% and +0.7% while for other enterprises it stood at +5.5%, +5.5% and +5.6%, by the same order.
